“Every change caused by nature also involves sacrifice, letting go and surrendering.”

Geodome of the forest, 2023

Greenhouses are laboratories and stages: they imitate an outdoor space inside, and, as closed systems, they can move entire landscapes from one place to another and allow plants to grow in inhospitable climates. Its translucent walls separate protected from unprotected space, that which is native and that which is categorized exotic. Looking outwards, however, this division loses its significance, so environments overlap. In Maritza Studart's poems, the meaning of words and the imagery of two different languages find a new combination: they coexist, question and alienate one another, and grow together. The resulting imagery is strangely precise and unique in its mood and texture. Word webs encompass openings and enclosures and derive their poetic power from them.
